Here’s How to Slow Your Breathing

Now more than ever, we are dealing with excessive stress and anxiety because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of us struggle with managing these anxiety symptoms. Slowing your breathing down can help you to relax. When people are very relaxed they will breathe approximately seven times per minute. This is a great practice to try when you need to focus on an interview, a presentation, or just calm yourself.

4-7-8 Breathing Technique

The 4-7-8 breathing method has also been called the “relaxing breath.” This technique, while lacking adequate scientific research, has plenty of anecdotal evidence that claims it helps with anxiety, sleeping, and focus. You can try using this method a couple of times each day.

If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath. ~Amit Ray

Technique Steps

  • Breathe in through your nose for 4 counts.
  • Hold your breath for 7 counts.
  • Exhale slowly for 8 counts through your mouth.
  • This counts as one full breath.
  • Repeat for 4-8 full breaths.
♥️ Post in our comments how you feel after trying this. Is this something you can try in stressful moments, or just at the start of your day?
